Drew Mobley attends Power Showcase Event: This past weekend Mustang junior Drew Mobley got the experience of a life-time. He was selected to participate in the International Power Showcase High School Home Run Derby in Tropicana Stadium, St. Petersburg, FL. Also representing the State of Alabama were Kyle Conkle from Ft. Payne and Ryan Joy from Hartselle. This event is not only a showcase but a rare opportunity for 75 of the top 17 & 18 year old high school power hitters from the United States, Puerto-Rico, Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Australia, Canada, Mexico and the Czech Republic to compete against each other. Madison Academy Coach Mike Good said, "It was quite a thrill for all of us watching over the internet to see Drew's picture, stats and Madison Academy, Huntsville, AL. flash across the Tropicana Jumbotron." Drew hit 3 Home Runs during the competition with his longest traveling 429 feet. Afterwards, Drew said, "I'll never forget the excitement and friendships formed from participating in this event." It should also be noted that another objective of the showcase is to endear each player to a person or child whose health is struggling and/or in need of hospital care. Drew chose to compete for Beth Steinke. Beth is the mother of senior first baseman and catcher Zach Ryan. Beth had been hospitalized recently due to the effects of a brain aneurysm and Drew thought it appropriate to put the spotlight on Beth as well as himself. Congratulations Drew, and thank-you for representing Ms. Steinke and our Madison Academy family.

Perfect Game Player Rankings: The Mustang Baseball Program would like to congratulate six Madison Academy student athletes who were recently recognized among the "Top High School Baseball Prospects" in the State of Alabama and the nation.
Perfectgame.org, a nationally recognized baseball scouting bureau based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa recently released their amateur baseball player rankings for the classes of 2010, 2011, and 2012. Representing Madison Academy were senior Stafford Booth, juniors Drew Mobley, Jared Brinson, and Clayton Palicki, as well as sophomores Chris Adams and Ian Rice.
Stafford Booth received a national ranking that places him among the Top 400 baseball players in the country. He becomes the fourth Madison Academy student athlete to be distinguished in this manner joining Corey Williams (Vanderbilt), Kelby Deerman (Alabama), and Brad Montgomery (South Alabama) from the Madison Academy class of 2008.
Drew Mobley, Jared Brinson and Clayton Palicki were mentioned as among the best high school baseball prospects from the State of Alabama for the class of 2011. Chris Adams and Ian Rice were also listed as underclassmen that represent "other top prospects" in the State of Alabama. Overall, Madison Academy tied for 7th among Alabama high schools who had players appearing on the lists compiled by Perfectgame.org and is the only 3A school represented in the top ten (see school ranking below).
While the spring 2010 baseball season seems several months away, many of these young men pursue baseball year round. Madison Academy sincerely thanks them their effort and wishes to congratulate them for the recognition they bring the school and to themselves. Job well done!
